Who writes and checks the pages
Pages are written by the CalcTortoise editorial team. Each new calculator, and each big change to one, is reviewed by the site owner before it is published. Money pages can affect real decisions, so we hold them to a higher standard than ordinary articles: every claim has a source, and every number is computed.
We will name a qualified reviewer on this page and on each calculator when one joins. Until then we do not claim any credential that nobody has.See How we use AI for the tools we use.
Where facts come from
In this order. If two sources disagree, we follow the official text and say so on the page.
- Official texts: scheme notifications in the Gazette of India, the Income-tax Act, Reserve Bank of India rules, IRS and Social Security Administration publications.
- Official orders and rate tables issued since, such as India Post circulars.
- Reputable news and finance websites, only when no official text can be found.
Every calculator ends with a “Sources and method” block listing the sources it uses and the date they were last verified. That date comes from the data file the calculator reads. If a calculator uses only a formula, the block says so and shows the date the page was last reviewed.
How the numbers are made
- Every number written in a page, including the worked examples and the results already in the page when it loads, is produced by the same code as the calculator. Nobody types a result into the text.
- Each calculator is tested against worked examples, and the tests run again whenever the site changes.
- Results are estimates. They depend on what you enter and on the assumptions we state. They are an illustration, not investment, tax or legal advice.
Returns, funds and advice
- Return rates in investment calculators are assumed, not predicted. The starting values stay within the range the Association of Mutual Funds in India uses for illustrations (2% to 13% a year); you can change them.
- We never name, rank or recommend a mutual fund, share, bank or insurer.
- We never call anything the “best” fund or product.
How often we check
- Small savings scheme rates: every quarter, when the government announces them.
- Income tax rules: after each Budget and each new notification.
- US tax tables, Social Security and required minimum distribution rules: every year.
- Market history: every January, for the year just ended.
A date on a page changes only when we have really checked the source again. We do not refresh dates to look current.
Corrections
If you think something is wrong, tell us through the contact page. We check it against the source. If you are right we fix it, and when the mistake changed a result or a rule we list it, with the date, what was wrong and what it says now, in the corrections log. We do not quietly change a page that readers may have used.
Independence and money
- We do not publish sponsored pages, paid reviews or paid rankings. No lender, bank or fund house pays to appear here.
- If advertising or paid links are ever added, they will be clearly labelled, will never change how a calculator works, and this page will be updated first.
- Calculators run in your browser. What you type is not sent to us. See the privacy policy.
Languages and versions
The site has an India version (English and Hindi), a US version and a global version. Each follows the rules of its own country, with its own currency, tax rules and examples. Hindi pages are marked until a native speaker has checked them.
